Cruise Ship Weddings
Maybe you have never been on a cruise before and would have no idea what to look for. Honestly we don’t know much about it either. It seems like everybody we know has taken a cruise and we can only hope someday. But we did find a very nice article with extensive information that you may find helpful.
We can see the temptation to go this route. It seems that you can leave a lot of problems behind this way. And how nice is a cruise! But there are trade-offs to everything. Will a wedding on a cruise save you money? Maybe. Will it be less of a hassle? Maybe. Will it be more fun than having a home wedding? Maybe. It really depends on a lot of things. Hopefully this information will help you think through some of the issues and help you decide if this is the route for you.
Weddings at Sea
By John S. Hanson
A wedding, whether it is your first or fifth, can be the best, and the most stressful, experience of your life. Except, of course, if you choose to tie the knot at sea. When getting married on a cruise ship, you’ll have a host of professionals trained to accommodate your every need during your cruise wedding. From cakes to tuxedos, accommodations to the reception hall, you won’t have to go off-board for anything. Unless of course you choose to have your reception on shore. In which case, the amenities come to you.
Imagine saying your vows on the beautiful beaches of the Caribbean, on a hillside vineyard in Italy, or on the snowy-white glaciers of Alaska. The possibilities are endless.
There are a few stipulations when getting married on a cruise ship. First, the captain generally does not marry the couple (except with Princess Cruises). A wedding officiant will be provided by the cruise line for that purpose. Second, cruise weddings take place while in port, not while at sea. You can choose to get married on board when in port or at a selected location on shore. Finally, the bride and groom must be sailing on the cruise in order to get married on it. Your guests can, however, board the ship for the wedding without sailing on the cruise.
Many cruise lines provide cruise wedding packages and coordinators to make sure that your day is special and runs smoothly. Carnival Cruise Lines, Norwegian Cruise Line, Holland America Line, Princess Cruises, and Royal Caribbean International, all provide wedding packages for couples sailing on their ships. Crystal Cruises and Cunard Line do not allow weddings on their ships. The cost of tying the knot at sea ranges from $900 to $2,400 and generally includes transportation to and from the port, wedding facilities, wedding officiant, wedding coordinator, ceremony music, flowers for the bride and groom, cake, champagne, photographer, wedding album, and dinner. Many will also arrange spa and hair appointments, as well as tuxedo rentals. Of course, each line has their own packages. Read below for information on the most popular cruise lines and their wedding options.

Bahamas Honeymoon
Imagine leaving your wedding on a Southwest flight to Florida and then on to the island of your choice for a Bahamas all inclusive package honeymoon?
Many have chosen the Bahamas for their honeymoon destination. And for good reason. They are beautiful and not too far away, helping to keep the expense reasonable.
The Bahamas, twenty nine islands in all, are a country of English speaking people who know how to make tourists happy. It is one of their main means of commerce.
Bimini is the island closest to Florida. This island is called the gateway to the Bahamas. Grand Bahama you likely have heard is also called the Big Island. Other islands include Great Inagua, Andros Island, Cat Island, Long Island, and New Providence (where is located the capital city of Nassau).
The climate is subtropical or tropical and there has never been a report of freezing temperatures on the islands.
But now back to planning your Bahamas honeymoon. Should you decide to make a go of it here are some suggestions we’ve gathered from different sources.
One, you probably already know is a money saver for whenever you travel, is to go off-season if you can. That really depends on where you are going and what date your wedding is planned for. We have known some couples who have had their wedding and postponed their honeymoon for a later date. You may not want to do that but it is an idea. If you could fifty per cent you might talk yourself into it. You can also look at flying on the off days.
Second, look for the Bahama shoulder seasons for significant discounts. If you can honeymoon after Easter but before the summer gets geared up or between Thanksgiving and Christmas you can usually score some deals.
Third, fly Southwest Airlines to Florida if you can. Having worked the Southwest Airlines reservation center, we know that Southwest has great fares regularly. And we know that Southwest has flights from Nashville to several cities in Florida.
Fourth, if you want to risk it, you can delay finalizing your plans until a great deal comes along. Look around for websites that offer last minutes deals. Could add a little excitement to your planning! But we would not think it would work well during the peak seasons.
Fifth, if you are having a Bahamas destination wedding, you can check to see if the airline you are using will give a discount for the number of seats you are booking.
Sixth, has there been a hurricane to hit the Bahamas in the recent past. Their misfortune could be your fortune. As they are rebuilding their business may be a good time to get a honeymoon bargain.
Seventh, you could try one of those bidding websites. We never have and feel uncomfortable not knowing what we are going to get, especially when traveling out of the country. But you may have good experiences with these sites and can give it a shot.
Eighth, you can find online a number of tour companies with various Bahamas honeymoon all-inclusive packages. These are always changing and we can only suggest that you look around to see what is offered and then be sure to check the fine print and any information about the quality of the company you are dealing with.
Now for the exciting part…actually planning your Bahamas honeymoon. And after it is all over, you can return home to begin your adventure here as husband and wife.
